| DESCRIPTION | This unit offers practical training in Audiovisual Translation (AVT), with a specific focus on dubbing and voice-over (lip sync dubbing, voice-over narration, UN-style voice-over, and phrase sync dubbing). These modes facilitate linguistic and cultural access to audiovisual content by recording or generating voice tracks in a newly translated target language, replacing, or overlaying the original track. Students learn how to translate, adapt and create scripts for dubbing and voice-over. They experiment with different tools and technologies, familiarise themselves with various script layouts, formats, and specifications, as well as client expectations, professional workflows and deliverables. The training covers two distinct approaches: in-studio dubbing and multilingual AI dubbing. Thein-studio approach is taught both with and without software tools. Students also practise using a professional cloud dubbing platform. Additionally, they train to develop skills necessary for emerging professional roles in the field, such as speech and sound editing for multilingual AI dubbing and quality assessment. Students practise using professional AI dubbing platforms. The training approach is globally oriented and non-language-specific, while practical tasks are tailored to various language combinations, including the possibility of English as a target language. Students also practise pivot translation . Study-unit Aims: - To teach the students how to translate and adapt audiovisual content for dubbing and voice-over purposes; - To teach students how to prepare dubbing and voice over scripts; - To teach the students adaptation strategies for lip-synch dubbing; - To teach the students how to use dubbing cloud-based tools; - To teach students how to use a quality assessment checklist; - To teach students self-assessment methods. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Reproduce professional practice workflows; - Identify standard norms and conventions, such as the use of notations; - Identify quality standards; - Identify the technical and linguistic constraints in audiovisual content; - Select adaptation strategies; - Identify and label errors; - Distinguish between traditional and cloud-based workflows; - Compare direct and indirect translation workflows. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Translate and adapt audiovisual content for dubbing and voice-over purposes; - Comply with standard norms and conventions; - Adopt pivot translation workflows; - Apply lip-synch adaptation strategies; - Use dubbing technologies, specifically cloud-based platforms and AI dubbing platforms; - Perform speech and sound editing; - Apply a quality assessment checklist; - Perform quality control and quality assessment processes.
